Brisbane CityThe Setup:
This is an embellishment on a balcony a few storeys up. I got level with it for something different than shooting from the ground. The camera & lens:
Camera: Canon EOS 400D DIGITAL@ 220/1mm
Exposure: 1/80" @ f/5/1, ISO 1600
Post processing:

Lightroom - The original image was fairly low contrast, so after cropping right down, I applied a strong curve adjustment (highlights +95, lights +75, darks -55, shadows -100). I used a graduated filter on the top half of the shot to lighten it (graduated exposure +1.75). The resulting image was very soft and very noisy, so I used noise reduction +70 and sharpening +60. The lens profile correction also helped a bit, with extra help from distortion correction (+200). If I was using the entire original image, it probably wouldn't have needed all of that (or would have been a throwaway if it did), but this is a very small crop of the original. Final adjustment was a blacks adjustment +15 and clarity +100.
The wash-up:
I don't like too much about this shot. It was too dark, mainly, so a lot of effort went in to cleaning it up.What do you think?
All constructive criticism is welcome! Please let me know what you think, and what you don't like about the picture. Everything is on the table, including the setup, equipment used, and the post processing. Nothing is off-limits and I'm always eager to learn!2011-09-09 13:41:02
