The Setup:This is an embellishment on a balcony a few storeys up. I got level with it for something different than shooting from the ground.
The camera & lens:Camera: Canon EOS 400D DIGITAL
Exposure: 1/80" @ f/5/1, ISO 1600
Lightroom - The original image was fairly low contrast, so after cropping right down, I applied a strong curve adjustment (highlights +95, lights +75, darks -55, shadows -100). I used a graduated filter on the top half of the shot to lighten it (graduated exposure +1.75). The resulting image was very soft and very noisy, so I used noise reduction +70 and sharpening +60. The lens profile correction also helped a bit, with extra help from distortion correction (+200). If I was using the entire original image, it probably wouldn't have needed all of that (or would have been a throwaway if it did), but this is a very small crop of the original. Final adjustment was a blacks adjustment +15 and clarity +100.
The wash-up:I don't like too much about this shot. It was too dark, mainly, so a lot of effort went in to cleaning it up.
