Project365 [275/365]: Train Cab

Location:

The Workshops Rail Museum, North Ipswich

The Setup:

The Workshops Rail Museum had a free-entry weekend so we popped over for a look. This photo was taken on a tour of the steam train workshops.

Not long after this, there was a spewpocalypse - the kind where it was better for all concerned that we just packed up and went home to hose everything off.

The camera & lens:

Camera: Canon EOS 400D DIGITAL
@ 28/1mm
Exposure: 1/8" @ f/4/1, ISO 1600

Post processing:

Lightroom - (I am imitating the style of Alan Warren's instructions here, to make things a bit more readable).

  1. Curves - lights +65, darks +40, shadows -45: To lighten the dark areas inside the cab.
  2. Fill light +10, clarity +100: To finish off the job above.
  3. Noise Reduction - luminance +45: It was quite dark inside, and I brightened the picture futher.
This easily could have been a B&W, but I thought the muted colours told the story a bit better than no colours at all.

The wash-up:

I'm quite happy with this. This is basically what I set out to get.

What do you think?

All constructive criticism is welcome! Please let me know what you think, and what you don't like about the picture. Everything is on the table, including the setup, equipment used, and the post processing. Nothing is off-limits and I'm always eager to learn!

I don’t know how I missed this one, I love the Workshops and trains and taking photos of trains and the Workshops :] I like the pre-crop version of this one.
