Project365 [363/365]: St Mary’s Church

Location:

St Mary's Church, Wood End, Ipswich

The Setup:

Alan Warren has posted a few photos of this church, and I thought I'd head down and have a crack at it. I had taken test shots last night so knew which angle I wanted.

The camera & lens:

Camera: Canon EOS 400D DIGITAL
Lens: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II @ 18mm
Exposure: 5" @ f/7.1, ISO 100 (Av, 1-stop exposure bracketing, this was the "normal" exposure)

Post processing:

Lightroom 3 -

  1. Colour temperature: all the way down to minimum (cool) (2000K)
  2. Presence: Exposure +0.8 stops, fill light +30, blacks +10, clarity +100
  3. Curves: lights -45, darks -30, shadows -20

The wash-up:

I made a lame attempt at HDR on this, but didn't get the right sorts of exposure - plus no clouds. I was also considering star trails with the church in the foreground but didn't really think it through. Will have to try these things again in the new year!

What do you think?

All constructive criticism is welcome! Please let me know what you think, and what you don't like about the picture. Everything is on the table, including the setup, equipment used, and the post processing. Nothing is off-limits and I'm always eager to learn!
