Miami, Gold Coast
General location: Australia, South-East Queensland

The Setup:

On holiday on the Gold Coast, which gave me an opportunity to head up here at night and take a long exposure facing north. With a ten minute exposure, I wanted to capture a picture of the water smoothed out.

The camera & lens:

Camera: Canon EOS 650D
Lens: Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 USM IS @ 15mm
Exposure: 604" @ f/13, ISO 100 (M, bulb mode with intervalometer)

Post processing:

Lightroom 4 -

  1. Crop & slight rotate
  2. Colour temperature -635 (not quite to tungsten but close)
  3. Presence: exposure +0.9 stops, highlights -100, shadows +90, white clipping -100, black clipping -5, clarity +50 (to bring the building exposure under control)
  4. Graduated filter from middle to bottom: exposure -0.6 stops, contrast +85, highlights -100, clarity +100 (to increase contrast on the water).
  5. Noise reduction: luminance +50, colour +100
