The Setup:

I took a day in lieu and took Evelyn on a trip to the beach. I had plans to get a photo of her little feet in the sand, which proved to be quite a moving target.

The camera & lens:

Camera: Canon EOS 400D DIGITAL
Lens: Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX-DC @ 30mm
Exposure: 1/1250" @ f/2.8, ISO 100

Post processing:

Lightroom - I converted to black and white and let Lightroom choose the colour mix. I set a strong curve that darkened shadows between each grain of sand (lights +35, darks -15, shadows -100), then set sharpening +50 (up from the default of +25) and clarity (+100). Final adjustments were blacks (+10) and recovery (+100).

The wash-up:

Like Saturday's shot in the pile of leaves, Evelyn was a fast-moving target and it was difficult to keep her in frame and out of trouble at the same time. Another shot I will try next time I'm able is similar to this but with the super-wide lens that can show the foot and sandcastle all at once. That is a challenge.
