Cathedral Square, Brisbane
General location: Australia, South-East Queensland

The Setup:

This is a door to something that is underground, presumably utility-related. I had never noticed the tree growing out from the top of it before.

When composing, I wanted to keep the text in the photo as well, as a offset.

The camera & lens:

Camera: iPhone 4
Lens: iPhone 4 fixed lens (30mm equivalent)
Exposure: 1/15" @ f/2.8, ISO 1000

Post processing:

Lightroom - The result from Instagram wasn't quite enough (mainly I wanted a bit more contrast), so I imported to Lightroom and added a few more changes.

  • Curves: Lights +15, Darks -15, Shadows -65.
  • Blacks +15, Clarity +35
  • Selective luminance change - yellow -75, green +30, aqua +15 (to try to bring some life to the plant itself
  • The wash-up:

The contrast still isn't exciting, but I can't quite work out how to make it better.
