General location: Australia, South-East Queensland
The Setup:Since summer is coming, we tend to leave the windows open at night (with flyscreens). This beetle was trapped by stupidity. I took the flyscreen off and photographed it in place before it eventually rolled away.
The camera & lens:Camera: Canon EOS 400D DIGITAL
Filters: 0.42x fisheye filter (macro mode)
Exposure: 1/25" @ f/14/1, ISO 800
- Applied a preset called EFF Dragan 2, which gives the desaturated copper tone seen here. It sets fill light +100, blacks +100, clarity +50, vibrance -50 and saturation -50, no curves, sharpening +60 and noise reduction +60
- I dialed back the noise reduction, so the hairy detail was kept intact
- Crop some of the body away for better composition
The wash-up:The whole-of-body shot was a bit boring but I was able to fix that by cropping.
