Location:

Sir Kingsford-Smith memorial at Brisbane Airport.
General location: Australia, South-East Queensland

The Setup:

We were having a picnic and killing some time before Carol's flight by taking photos and videos of Evelyn mucking around. The winter sun was winding up and when I saw this shot, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it.

The camera & lens:

@ 77/20mm
Exposure: 1/600" @ f/28/10, ISO 80

Post processing:

Lightroom - I converted to B&W and raised the high levels to 100% and the low levels to 0%. I also raised the exposure to try to drown out the concrete texture still remaining, but a lot of it hung around. I got rid of most of the rest using an adjustment layer (exposure +4.0 and clarity -100).

The wash-up:

The original shot has a nice silhouette of Evelyn's hair which I thought I could preserve, but of course it blended in to the background, and the shadow of it is quite muddy. Also I was running out of battery on the laptop so didn't finish the job on the concrete.

What would you do?
