General location: Australia, South-East Queensland

The Setup:

We went to the nursery and aquarium, and I took a few photos at the aquarium. These seahorses were doing whatever seahorses do, I guess.

The camera & lens:

Camera: Canon EOS 650D
Lens: Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 USM IS @ 85mm
Exposure: 1/160" @ f/5.6, ISO 2500 (0/1)

Post processing:

Lightroom 4 -

  1. Convert to B&W using auto colour mix
  2. Crop
  3. Exposure +1.2 stops, shadows +85, blacks -75, clarity +40. This was because the background was much lighter than the foreground, so I needed to bring some contrast back to the seahorses themselves.
  4. Noise reduction: Luminance +25

The wash-up:

Needed a smaller aperture to get more of the seahorses in focus.
