A dismantled microfiche reader or CCTV monitor, with tools laid out on a mat.

Seven Hills, Qld
General location: Australia, South-East Queensland

The Setup:

Spent an afternoon and evening at the abandoned TAFE. This looks to be a microfiche viewer or maybe a CCTV monitor, and someone's toolset laid out ready to work (and covered in dust). We wore masks in this room, on account of the strong smell.

The camera & lens:

Camera: Canon EOS 400D DIGITAL
Lens: Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 USM IS @ 15mm
Exposure: 60" @ f/8, ISO 1600

Post processing:

Lightroom 4 -

  1. Graduated filter from the middle to the top of the image to lighten it. Exposure +2.5 stops
  2. Overall image: Exposure +0.6 stops, highlights -25, shadows -65, white clipping +70, black clipping +35, clarity +25
  3. ACR lens correction profile for EF-S 15-85mm
  4. Noise reduction: Luminance +70, colour 60 (from default of 25)
  5. Slight crop and rotate.

The wash-up:

I just don't get HDR. Going to keep trying though.

Yes – you arrived as we were finishing up in this room. I’m sure it’s not going anywhere though 🙂
