Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast
General location: Australia, South-East Queensland

The Setup:

So much of the iconic Surfers Paradise beach has washed away. It may not have been the best beach in the world but it's really well known and was still pretty sweet to visit. I hope they can fix it up.

The camera & lens:

Camera: Canon EOS 650D
Lens: Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 USM IS @ 85mm
Exposure: 1/640" @ f/5.6, ISO 100 (0/1)

Post processing:

Lightroom 4 -

  1. Preset: B&W Look 5, which uses desaturation to get a B&W image, with shadow levels -15, temp +60 and tint +25.
  2. Presence: Exposure +0.55 stops, highlights +100, shadows +65
  3. Graduated filter from lower middle of shot, heading left: Exposure -1.5 stops, highlights +100, shadows -100, clarity +100 (this was to darken/even up the water area)
