An owl lantern.

Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast
General location: Australia, South-East Queensland

The Setup:

Surfers Paradise Festival parade. There were lots of these great lantern designs. Got down low to catch this one from below.

The camera & lens:

Camera: Sony RX100 II
Lens: Sony RX100M2 fixed lens 10.4-37.1mm f/1.8-4.9 (28-105mm equivalent) @ 10.4mm
Exposure: 1/200" @ f/1.8, ISO 2000 (0/10)

Post processing:

Lightroom 5 -

  1. Crop
  2. Basic: Highlights -10, shadows -100, black clipping +75, clarity +10
  3. Spot adjustment to de-emphasise the flag in the right of the frame.

The wash-up:

My flag de-emphasis didn't work as expected - it left behind some grit. Solution for this may be a tiny bit of photoshop [elements].
