At home, Ipswich
General location: Australia, South-East Queensland

The Setup:

This is for the get-pushed-43 challenge from @nicoleterheide: "for this challenge I want you to keep it closer to home. Find something in your house that you use a lot and make an interesting photo of that. For inspiration take a look at the mundane challenges." I spent a few days thinking about it and came up with this.

This is my toothbrush, much used and in my house. It is lit from the side by a torch.

The camera & lens:

Camera: Canon EOS 650D
Lens: Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 USM IS @ 15mm
Exposure: 4/10" @ f/16, ISO 200 (Av, manual ISO, manual focus)

Post processing:

Lightroom 4 -

  1. Shadows -30, white clipping -100, black clipping +10, clarity +60
  2. Spot adjustment over the dark areas: -8 stops (hasn't quite wiped out all of the detail, but close enough!)
  3. Noise reduction: luminance +40, detail +100
